Wood’s Corn Fields

Visiting a major Russian bank today, I noticed two interesting paintings in one of the reception halls. One depicted two old-fashioned women playing lawn tennis. The other was mostly hilly corn fields with two houses up there in a distance. “Looks like Grant Wood’s manner,” I muttered, walked up closer and leaned down to see what was scratched in the bottom left corner. Grant Wood 1939!

I was so proud of myself that I wished I had exclaimed loudly: “Gee! It’s good old Wood!” two minutes earlier. It must have been a print, of course, since that was not the CEO’s office or some other VIP area. And yet, what a pleasant surprise! Now I must find out if the other painting is by Wood as well.
