Be Off, Bloggah

If all goes well — if at least a few key things work out well — we should spend two weeks on Crete starting Sunday. Meet you there — or here, in a fortnight and a couple of days.

  1. language says:

Hope you’re having a great time! A question for when you get back: Rustam Tariko is from Tatarstan, but the name doesn’t sound Tatar — do you know anything about it?

  2. Alex(ei) says:

Asked if he had relied on the help of the Tatar community in Moscow, Tariko claimed he had been reluctant to exploit ethnic ties although he enjoyed helping his native town in Tatarstan. I understand from this that he is of Tatar ancestry, but “Rustam Vasil’evich Tariko” is not a typical Tatar name indeed — perhaps his father’s lineage is different. (Or is he a so-called kryaschen?)

BTW, Vagit Alekperov is a son of a Tatar-Azeri father and a Ukrainian mother.
