[Kursk]

I do not write about Russia as often as I probably should: it hurts. A few days ago, a Russian submarine sunk in the Barents sea on its way to the shipyard where it was to be scrapped. See what Interested-Participant has to say about it; I concur. It was so avoidable! “Negligence,” they say, shoulders shrugging. Beyond shrugging, what can I say? When people responsible for others’ lives get habitually irresponsible, negligence is too legal a word. No, I won’t say they’ve lost their souls — leave it to the boys’ parents.

It all reminds me once again how miserable and contemptible humans can become — but am I much better?
