The Russian soccer team has just beat Switzerland 4-1 in a Euro qualifier. It is a rather important win after Russia’s humiliating losses. The team did a great job — special thanks to the new coach, Georgy Yartsev. His predecessor, Valery Gazzayev, resigned after a series of failed games, as a man of honor — an exception to today’s mores. Normally, I would subscribe to Harry Truman’s opinion that sports don’t matter much; but not today.
