My blog is now old enough I can quote what I wrote a year ago. Right now I am only trying to identify, naively, two popular perceptions of the Great Revolution. One is that the Revolution was basically a good, healthy and much-needed development until it went awry with the Montagnards seizing power. The other, that 1789 but was the first in a row of years marked by unspeakable cruelty, corruption of the human spirit and self-destruction of the French society. The same can be applied to the three Russian revolutions of the 20th century (1905–1907, Feb. 1917 and Oct. 1917).
