Nominal notes

It seems that most English speakers familiar with the basics of microeconomics pronounce Eugene Slutsky’s last name as if it were derived from “slut.” In Russian, the root vowel in “Slutsky” is somewhere in-between the “oo” in “soot” and in “loot.”

It is equally true of other Slutskys, e.g., the poet Boris S.
