Courtesy of Russia’s Unified Energy Systems and its Moscow subsidiary, Mosenergo, the word “blackout” has now entered the Russian language. I’d rather it had not — not through those corporate sponsors at least. Both companies are partly foreign-owned — good news for the investors, indeed.

Concerning a curious musical copyright case in the UK, Alex Ross concludes that Pierre Menard, after all, is the author of Don Quixote, and offers examples of copyrightable masterpieces created with much ease using the newly patented method.

Remo Giazotto and his “Albinoni Adagio” seem a rather different case; I doubt Giazotto had to sue to get it copyrighted.
