A very particular Soviet green

An interview with the partner of a Greenpeace activist.

There are images of cells, painted in a very particular Soviet green, with underwear hanging on string between the sink and the grey bars of the bunk beds, a small table big enough for two people covered with newspaper and some plastic food containers, towels hanging to dry on the bunk bed, grey penal blankets.

Well observed. That Soviet green was everywhere – on roofs, fences and walls, especially in various kazennye uchrezhdeniya such as hospitals, schools and, I guess, prisons. Must have been a cheap, widely available sort of oil paint.

The comments section – see link above – got overrun by Putinists. Whenever The Guardian writes about Pussy Riot or the Arctic Sunrise or anti-Yanukovich protests in Ukraine, they show up in droves.
