Vladimir Putin seems to have achieved what no Soviet leader could pull off: a Russian agent in the White House and a sense of doom in the hearts of America’s finest. Putin can now retire in peace. This prize is greater than Ukraine, Belarus or the Baltics. The little man knows how to win big. The apparent ossification of minority rule in the US is a pleasant side effect for Putin.
A systematic error in US polls has grown even larger since the previous election: this one is likely to hinge again on small margins in a few states. In this situation, Trump is almost guaranteed to win, if necessary, by having Republican-packed courts block the vote count at an opportune moment, throwing out large numbers of mail-in ballots.
