Russian papers

Let me turn to the Russian papers that matter now. The two leading business publications are Vedomosti and Kommersant. Vedomosti, established with the assistance of The Wall Street Journal and The Financial Times, have confined themselves to economics and politics (their latest editorial titled “Octavian Putin”). Kommersant‘s scope is broader — they aspire to cover all that a middle-class Muscovite (Petersburger, Nizhegorodets, etc.) should know about the goings-on. Writers for both papers typically use an ironic, sometimes caustic tone, seldom cutting slack to anybody.

But no English versions, alas; I suggest tuning to David Johnson’s Russia List.
